Designing Cinematic Web Intros
all thoughtsTurning the first moments of a page into atmosphere while keeping the interface immediate.
The first two seconds
Every website has a cold start. Most hide it behind a spinner. A better opening can establish rhythm and mood while the page quietly becomes ready underneath.
The important part is restraint. A transition should support the first impression, then leave. It should never delay access to the page or compete with the content that follows.
Respecting the viewer
Motion is an enhancement, not a requirement. Reduced-motion preferences should collapse the ritual into an immediate, stable composition without losing information.
